Planning & Design

The first step in the building renovation project was the Planning and Design process. We received a grant from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners to help us figure out the best options for a library that will meet the needs of the community on a 20-year planning horizon. The “Westborough Building Program“ document was created at the end of the process, to describe the library Westborough needs.
As part of the process, we considered seven options, including new construction on alternate sites, and renovation/expansion on our current site. Those findings are outlined in the “LBC Preliminary Options Handout.“
The 2014 community survey and focus groups overwhelmingly showed that residents want the library to remain in its current location in the downtown area.
Documents linked below include supporting information for “adjacencies,” or which departments should be located near or far from each other, a planning guide for modern spaces, and existing (2016) floor plans and site plans.
The Library Building Committee typically meets the last Tuesday of the month at 3:30 pm at the Westborough Public Library. Agendas are posted on the Town calendar and on the Library Building Committee Google Drive.
